Refreshed

Your love, oh Lord
Reaches to the heavens
Your faithfulness stretches to the sky
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains
Your justice flows like the ocean's tide
I will lift my voice
To worship You, my King
I will find my strength
In the shadow of your wings

"Creed, Asher, Liam, get in the car we have to go.  Today is going to be a car day, and Creed we are going to visit a cavern for your birthday..."

We drove until we couldn't drive anymore. Exhaustion was overcoming us. But, on the way we passed a giant wind farm that made Creed very happy, he wanted us to sleep underneath one for his birthday but eventually we convinced him that the caverns would be a better choice. I couldn't get a Marriott to house us so the next best thing was Motel 6...  the memories of my childhood trips came flooding back as we checked in and gently laid the sleeping children on their bed. Motel 6, you have thin walls but tired overcomes noise and we were tired! Diane and I were disappointed when a very hungry and fussy Liam woke us up far too early the next morning.  We didn't have any snacks and were left trying to satisfy him with water... so we quickly got ourselves packed up and over to the IHOP for a birthday breakfast.

I quickly informed the staff that it was Creed's birthday and just before we left they came around with ice cream and singing to cheer us on our way.

Back in the car for thirty minutes to the Carlsbad Caverns. Wow that a wonderful idea to go there! I wanted to push through and make it to Silver City early in the morning but my friend Tony recommended we make the stop and smell the guano? Well, there was plenty of it in the cavern near the top but he did actually say roses. The drive up to the Cavern was breathtakingly beautiful and the time there was fantastic. The caverns are 75 stories underground and the walk through them was close to 4 miles total. We walked around the "Big Room" and then my very brave and athletic family hiked out... yes we were the only ones who were doing this... we passed many people hiking in but no one is crazy enough to hike out 75 stories when there is a perfectly good elevator. Well almost no one! Props to my wife for carrying Liam out! She is truly amazing!

We were back in the car after a short (ha ha ha) hike and off to Silver City. We pulled into my Uncle Paul and Aunt Karisse's house around 18:30 (my blog I will use military time :) ) with kids who, although tired from the hike, were still eager to run around and fight invisible bad guys with sticks while we grilled burgers and prepared for one of many fantastic meals at the Moores'. My Aunt didn't know it was Creed's birthday...I'm sure if she had known there would have been all sorts of incredible birthday whats its and who's its but she did a great job of improvising with a candle and some delicious friendship bread.

By the time dinner was over we were ready for bed, so after a quick bath time we all crashed and enjoyed the beautiful quiet of Silver City and the peace of staying with loved ones. The stars from our bedroom were bright and well... visible, which is quite a treat coming from the city.

It seems that no matter when we put our kids to bed they always get up too early. Sunday morning-the big day-was already here and I had barely gotten dressed and my things together when it was time to go... bummer, no breakfast no coffee... but God is good! At Uncle/Pastor/Father Paul's church they provide these wonderful things and I partook very gratefully. The service was wonderful, filled with Liturgy  no singing, and I must say my Uncle can preach! After it was all said and done I was given the Sunday school hour to share my heart and my ministry and I could feel your prayers as I shared.

After Sunday school we rushed off to Pastor Tony's church where we arrived in time to enjoy some spirit filled worship before I was interviewed and then preached the sermon. It was great getting a chance to preach from my heart and my heart was full... 40 minutes later after the preacher  finally shut up we all gathered for a pizza lunch and good fellowship.

Tired but joyful we found our way back home to rest until mid afternoon when Tony and his lovely wife, Jodi, gathered us up again for another adventure. We drove deep into the mountains and hiked out to a beautiful spot where we climbed rocks and let the wind blow through our hair as we enjoyed the creativity and beauty of the landscape our awesome God created for us to enjoy. Then we drove through a neighborhood full of deer... yes deer not dear, and enjoyed getting close and personal with these presumptuous creatures. After that we were off to the park to drop off the kids with my relatives and then enjoyed a nice dinner with Tony and his wife.

The next morning we got up slowly, enjoying the pace that an extra day afforded us. Tony showed up mid morning and whisked us off to the City of Rocks - a most interesting and enjoyable state park.

The kids climbed everything in sight and after awhile we were all tired and the wind was raging so we packed up and enjoyed a little tour around the mountain. We saw "The Kneeling Nun" whom God had turned to stone because she fell in love with a buffalo soldier and wanted to be released from her vows.

We also got to see the oldest open pit mine in the U.S.

The mine is in the background and here you see how big the tires are on the mining trucks! They are at least 10 feet tall

When we were done seeing the sights we headed home for some much needed rest... well when I say rest I mean my most gracious life partner watched the little energizer bunnies play outside with the sticks and the dogs and the turtles while I napped. The afternoon slipped on by and then it was time to go out again this time with a hawk and an Uncle.

My Uncle Paul among his many talents hunts with hawks and Diane and I got to go out with him and beat the bush to scare rabbits or snakes or whatever out for the wonderful hawk to swoop down and devour. Yes we went hawking and it was super fun even though their was no game to be found. I think my wife looks great in her hawking outfit :).

Home again - tired but with ice cream in hand and cobbler on the table when we arrived. After a delicious dessert we drifted off to sleep and awoke to a morning crisp and wet. Wet is awesome in the desert and although it was quite chilly it was great to know that the rain/sleet/snow was a huge blessing to the community.

I jumped in the car and raced back to Tony's church where I enjoyed an hour long prayer meeting before my family would join me and we would all head back to Dallas. I was a little dubious about going to the meeting because I typically like getting an early start when I have to drive 12 hours, but this meeting was one of the best times of refreshment for me on the entire trip. They let me share my heart with them (pastors and leaders in the community) and then prayed for me and God did an immediate healing on my previously quite sore and tight back. It was incredible I could feel the love, joy and peace just flowing in the room from the heart of God to all of us and I left feeling blessed and refreshed.

Back in the car but this time with lots of snacks for the road, and we were homeward bound. With snow falling against the windshield we blazed down the mountain and hit the low desert where we found a formidable dust storm waiting for us. I have now seen tumbling tumble weeds flying across the road and dust so thick that you can't see 30 feet in front of you. All in all though it was a pleasant drive back and when we pulled into our driveway all I could think was "I got to see mountains Gandalph, mountains" what I imagine Bilbo would have said after a trip like this.

Praises!

The trip was amazing and the car made it without any trouble at all.

For you and all you do!

For the healing in my back!

Prayers!

The journey continues and I need strength to persevere and wisdom to deal with the multitude of details well.

My family and wife are under extra strain while I'm gone so pray that people will surround them and support them while I'm away. That my wife will be able to get all her work done and live in the peace and joy that the Lord provides.

It was a great  week and a great weekend away. I'm so grateful to be home and to have some time to rest before I head out again...

Philippians 1:3-6

3I thank my God every time I remember you. 4In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Blessings to you all!

Caleb

To Boldly Go

Matthew 28:18-20

18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

That is why we boldly go, because we want to inspire others to walk as Jesus walked and we all want to join together as a body doing our part to accomplish the great commission. I'm thinking a lot about the word inspire as I prepare to head out soon on my first P.D. trip. I want to inspire others, I don't want to sell them my ministry I want to stir something in them that leads them into partnership with what God is doing, regardless of my ministry.

This week has been pure joy as I look back and consider the blessings that Jesus has poured out. I was considering how Easter is an arbitrary day but the reality of Easter lives with us constantly. The power of the resurrected Lord lives within us... because he lives we too will live.... do live, and our life is abundant!

Also eggs with candy is really cool and we see how the Lord gives us an abundant bounty? Yeah something like that. I love these kids!

This week has been rainy and cold for the most part, but before the rain came I got inspired to plant 36 petunias and refresh my flower beds, the spring push has begun! It was great getting outside with my brother in law David and getting some sun and making things look new.

However, the experience wasn't too friendly on my back and left me feeling slightly discouraged, but God had many blessings in store around the corner in the form of volunteers from a local Christian College. On Thursday in the wet and cold weather that just blew through they came to my house and helped finish the spring push; doing in a couple of hours what would have taken me a couple of days. I am so blessed by them. I laughed thinking about the many hours early last month that I spent with the MK's doing the same kind of thing for other people and how God then sent people to my house.

So, I'm leaving my yard and my house looking great! I'm also leaving it in the great hands of my brothers in law who I know will take good care of things while we are gone. But ultimately this and all things are in Gods more then capable, kind, generous, and perfecting hands. As I think about leaving I think about all the times I did this as a kid and I'm laughing to myself thinking about how I'm taking my kids on a similar adventure... only we are in a Corolla not a station wagon.

Prayers!

For my back on the long trip
For Creed to have a great Birthday tomorrow
For blessing on the relationships that I go to strengthen and create, that I can do only what I see my Father doing and that I can bring glory to Him!
That the car will be good as we travel, as well as the kids and for safety!
For David and Mark that all their needs will be met.

Praises!

I'm so thankful my family can come with me.
I'm so grateful for a place to go and share what I'm doing.
I'm so thankful for how all of you make this possible; that you have become such incredible partners with God in completing the great commission; and that you are helping me to boldly go and do my part.

May the truth of Jesus resurrection give life to your day and may the fact that he prepares a place for you give you hope and as we all wait for the day when we truly boldly go... may we all wait well!

Blessings!

I'm Tired

This has been a very busy week and I'm tired!

Isaiah 40: 28-31

28 Do you not know?Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Excellent, verses that I'm sure I will be reading a lot in the coming month that is so full of travel and business. The secret is choosing to stop and in the quiet stillness to turn my heart toward God and renew my hope in Him

Your prayers are so encouraging and I'm so thankful for each of them. This week has flown by and with it the Gebauers have flown off to the Solomon Islands leaving David and Mark behind. I asked that you pray for the transition and your prayers have been answered, it has been very smooth moving Mark and David in and we are enjoying a good Friday :).

This morning we went to the P.B.T. (where my wife works) brunch and enjoyed watching our kids hunt for eggs and play, now we are home finishing up cleaning and organizing the chaos that has been put to the side while other more important things were dealt with. Silly little things like mail and the remnants of a house recently vacated. It's funny the things that get left behind like half a bottle of Windex, well it has a home here with the other bottle of Windex we got last time the house was vacated. I guess I need to clean more windows? Any way it's one of those days where the time sleepily goes by and before you know it it's time to head off to Good Friday service and then bed. Nothing like a good three day weekend to help one rest up.

I got to spend a lot of time with my brothers and sisters in law before they left. My contribution was watching the kids while those more skilled then I packed and sorted the remaining articles in the house. It was great  getting to have that time with them!

I felt very sad on Tuesday! Saying good bye is hard to do, even for an MK who has been doing it his whole life! However, God had a great surprise in store for me.

Being a youth pastor for the Dallas MK has its perks, one of which is getting tickets to sporting events every once in a while when the home team is trying to sell out the stadium for a big game. Tuesday night we got tickets to watch the Mavericks play the Clippers but I had turned the ticket down because that was the day the Gebauers were leaving and I wanted to be completely free to do whatever I needed to do that day. Well it turned out that they were  leaving a little earlier then I had thought.

I walked into childcare to drop off Asher and Liam Tuesday morning and one of the MK Moms who works there asked me, out of the blue, if I wanted to take her kid and his friends to the game that night. I couldn't believe how perfectly God set this whole thing up. If I had already been planning on going I wouldn't have been free to help her out and I wouldn't have been able to spend all that great time with her son and his friends. It was a great evening capped off with a Mavericks win in over time. God is so good!

Happy Easter to you all! I hope you enjoy whatever services and traditions you participate in and I hope that God fills your heart with joy and courage as you think about the incredible gift he has given you in his resurrected son.

Death has lost its sting we have the victory because...

He is risen!

I know many of you just said

He is risen indeed!

Amen!

Prayers!

That my family will truly find rest this week and that we will be well prepared for our trips in weeks to come. That Mark and David are able to feel at home with us and thrive during their time here.

For my parents who are in the midst of war in C.A.R. My heart aches for them and their safe travel out of the war and to a nice spot where they can find rest.

Praises!

I find so much joy in my ministry and how God has blessed it!

I praise God for you!

I always enjoyed the sunrise service growing up in Congo; looking out over the river and hearing "up from the grave he arose with a mighty triumph o'er his foes"  ring out was truly majestic and got me in the Easter mood. Now I am looking forward to Easter brunch and egg hunt at church and when I get home having ham and Hawaiian rolls while still singing "up from the grave he arose with a mighty triumph o'er his foes" and letting it ring out over my living room. Easter is Easter, no matter where you are it's about how Jesus Christ kicked death right in the teeth and rose again for us, and while I type this it still brings a tear of joy to my eye... thank you Lord!

Blessings,

Caleb

Speak Life

So speak Life, speak Life.To the deadest darkest night.Speak life, speak Life. When the sun won’t shine and you don’t know why.Look into the eyes of the brokenhearted;Watch them come alive as soon as you speak hope,You speak love, you speak...You speak Life...

TOBY MAC - SPEAK LIFE LYRICS

I finished my teaching on "The Pursuit of God" by A.W. Tozer this week in MK and my take away from the book is one question that can be phrased so many different ways. Essentially can I, can we, give up our world to pursue His world?  you cannot serve two masters, do you love me more than these,  keep yourselves from idols... it is so powerful this thought that rings throughout scripture, will you lose your life and let God save it or will you save your own life and lose it forever?

I have really enjoyed having people come and see me in the office lately, two friends from my former job have been able to come down and visit, Cris and Lisa, and then I was able to meet a family just visiting for spring break and then yesterday some of the kids finally came and sat in my office and we had cookies :). One of my favorite parts of this job is relating to all the great people that cross my path.

(wonderful family and my silly finger... I wasn't called to be a photographer :)

Last Friday I did some exploring after I wrote my blog and enjoyed meeting some of the other people who work in the building. So many of them know my family in some way shape or form since most of my family is or has been a part of Wycliffe. Being a third generation MK helps with making connections around the work place.

This week we took the senior class out for dinner to celebrate them. I always hate saying good bye to the seniors but hey if I have to say good bye I might as well get some steak out of the deal :). It was great to see them all together, they are so busy with school they can't always make it on Monday nights.

I am getting ready to go to Africa soon and this week was shot week, six shots one day no waiting, wow it was great! The  Lord showed his kindness in this and in so many ways this week as I prepared for the crazy month of April that is staring me in the face. I have realized that crazy is normal and that normal is crazy and I'm so thankful for a kind Lord and a good wife to help me get through. This week my computer died but thanks to Jason Martin it has been brought back to newness of life and has repented of all its strange behavior and decided to go and sin no more.

My sister in law Lisa is here and it is a great joy to see her. I got to see my other sister in law Kelsey last weekend at a wedding for my wife's cousin. I have such a wonderful extended family! Lisa is here to say good bye to her parents before they leave next week. It is sad to see them go but it's very exciting to know they are following their dream and spreading the gospel! At least they are leaving Mark behind with us. It is going to be fun having a full house again.

Romans 2:4

4Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

I can really relate to this verse this week, I am overwhelmed by God's kindness and see this connection to repentance so clearly in my life. I am so encouraged by how much support has come in for my ministry (getting closer to full support every day), by his grace through my computer dying and finding full recovery, his mercy with my six shots and no side effects, his peace in the future that lies ahead, and his joy in friendship with my community.

God you are my God and I will ever praise you and I will seek you in the morning and I will learn to walk in your ways and step by step you'll lead me and I will follow you all of my days!

Praises!

My heart is full of praise for my God who truly does give good gifts to his children! This morning I was truly encouraged by the community God has surrounded me with and their love and support that is so undeserving!

Prayers!

Transition is coming with leaving people and people moving in.

I'm preparing to teach the Sermon on the Mount.

Trips and for my family during them and for decisions on when my family should come with me.

I consider it pure joy to be on this adventure with you! Your prayers carry me and protect me and your support encourages me and provides for my family, the Lord uses you in my life powerfully. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I could not walk this road alone!

Blessings!

Caleb

Getting Dirty for the Lord

Photo

This week has been a wonderful example of how my life has truly changed now that I am working full time with the Dallas MK's. On Saturday our group did yard work in the community, which meant that we did a lot of raking of leaves, it was great to be able to join the team for the whole day! We got rained out in the afternoon and had to postpone the final two jobs until Monday afternoon. The picture above is the kids finishing up their final job weeding (finally no raking) for this wonderful missionary woman who has dedicated her life to serving the Lord.

We typically don't meet on days that the kids have off of school and since this was Spring Break for a lot of the kids in our group we didn't have a formal Monday night youth meeting, but we did meet informally and play games and had a lot of good fellowship (man I'm old when I say fellowship I mean we hung out or chilled out? I don't know we were locally present with one another and enjoyed verbal exchanges). It was great to have the time and energy to pour out into the community and into these amazing kids I've been called to serve.

Photo: My office come see me I'm here until 12:30pm

This is where the magic happens :)... I'm very happy with my office and very grateful for it. I have slowly made this space my own. I have the prized possessions given me from my old job on my desk, my employee of the decade award, my signed shirt and my superman cups. The chair is blocking my superman mug. I also have my Rocky 4 picture next to my cowboys stadium picture, and a wonderful picture of my wife and kids! They are so amazing!

Creed has had this week off from school so I have spent a lot of the week hanging out with him and my other two munchkins. Finally Friday is here and another week is in the books, what a whirlwind it has been, but truly I'm bracing myself for the storm that April is going to be.

Prayers!

My in-laws are leaving soon and that means that Mark, my brother in law, will be moving in and possibly his brother David for a little while. Pray for smooth transition for all parties involved and for a safe trip for my in-laws back to the mission field.

I'm grateful that Mark is going to be around in April when I will be gone a lot. I have trips planned for every weekend in April, pray for safety and blessing as I go to share what I do with friends and family around the country, culminating in my trip to Africa at the end of the month.

Praises!

I'm so thankful for you! Your prayers and financial support are a huge encouragement to me and so many people have jumped in to help bring me closer to full support, I'm not there yet but I'm moving in the right direction and quickly!

Creed is doing much better, he did have an ear infection but it went away and I have my cheerful son back.

There is the proof that my wife is an amazing superhero! However, she could really use a hand when I'm gone on all these trips. So this is a praise for God giving me an amazing superhero wife and praise for the community that will help support her when I'm gone.

1 Corinthians 12:25-27

25God’s purpose was that the body should not be divided but rather that all of its parts should feel the same concern for each other. 26If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts share its suffering. If one part is praised, all the others share in its happiness. 27You are Christ’s body and each of you is an individual part of it.

I'm so blessed by you and grateful that we are one body, thanks for sending me, loving me, and serving me and thank you that I can do the same for you. We win and lose together and thanks to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ we have the victory when the day is done.

Blessings!

Youth Ministry

Hi my name is Caleb Robbins and I have been given the opportunity to serve God in full time ministry with Wycliffe as a Youth Pastor to the Dallas missionary kids who's parents serve both Wycliffe and Pioneer Bible Translators. I am a missionary's kid myself and spent the first 18 years of my life in Africa, specifically Congo and then Cameroon. Growing up an MK has really given me a passion for serving MK's and seeing them live in the fullness that God has for them.

When I was 18 I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in youth ministry and went to Grace College and Seminary for one year majoring in Youth Ministries. In 2003 I came back to Dallas got married to the beautiful Diane and got involved in a church putting to practice the things that I had learned. In 2006 I started working as a volunteer with the youth group I am now serving with full time and  I also started doing short term mission trips to Thailand serving missionaries by putting on youth conferences for them during their annual meetings. For the last 10 years I worked at a Courtyard by Marriott to help meet my financial needs, recently God has called me to step out in faith to fill this position where I rely on the support of others like you.

One of my goals in working with Wycliffe is to be a part of Bible Translation around the world. You may be wondering how I fit in to that doing youth ministry, that is a good question. One of the reasons Bible Translation projects are put on hold is because the translators families are going through turmoil (my family had to leave the mission field twice due to civil war). Families are brought back from the mission field quite broken sometimes and are unable to return until healing has taken place. We all know how stressful it is when our kids get sick or are just sad and hurting and we don't know how to help them. I'm here to be used by God to bring healing, where I can, to these children and so help the entire family be involved in the work God has called them to do.

I'm also passionate about helping missionary kids understand their role in Gods kingdom and their identity in his family. While kids are in my youth group I want them to have a place where they can also process the sometimes stressful transitions they go through traveling back and forth between two worlds and not knowing how long they will be in each.

I'm so grateful for your interest in partnering with me in what God wants to do with the Dallas MK's and ultimately how that fits into His great commission the spreading of the gospel to all people.

Week one of forever!

Choose what you do in life according to  your passion and purpose.  In the end you don’t want to work for a living, you want to live for the work you’re doing. – John C. Maxwell

I am sitting here in my office thinking about the goodness of God and I can't believe how immense his goodness is, so far and high above our ability to imagine are his plans for us and he delights in giving us the desires of our heart as we learn to delight in him.

Psalm 37:4

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
I know that God doesn't just give us what we want, but he does make us who he wants us to be as we surrender to him, and through that painful process we become the kind of people who can accept and appreciate the goodness that he offers to us our whole lives.

I think about Paul a lot when I think about the joy that is in missionary work. This guy went through a lot of suffering but he was suited to it and wouldn't have traded his life for any other because when God made Paul he designed him with the appropriate amount of guts to do the work that he was called to.

The joy in serving the Lord makes the temporary trials seem meaningless by comparison...  I'm not looking for the stones to be thrown but I am looking to the one on the throne.  Following hard after God makes the stones unavoidable  because the men and women that he calls are not the sort that shrink back  but those who through strength and courage persevere. The kind of people that follow the one who said for the joy set before me I will endure...

Hebrews 10:39

But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have   faith and are saved.

Hebrews 12:2

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Right now I'm looking back on a week that was filled with the goodness of God and his joy is overflowing in my spirit! I had the joy of going to a youth conference, meeting with my dear sister for prayer and encouragement, meeting with my pastor, talking to my amazing boss Bob, talking to parents, getting set up in this office, preaching and teaching and loving the kids God has given me in this ministry, and so much more.

My heart is full! Thanks for reading this and being a part of it! The blessing you bring to my life by living in community with me well...

Psalm 133

A song of ascents. Of David.

How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!
It is like precious oil poured on the head,
    running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
    were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing,
    even life forevermore.

Praise

God is overwhelming me with how much he cares about my support needs and he keeps bringing people into my life who are willing to help get me where I need to go.

I'm living my dream taking it one day at a time!

Prayer

Creed is sick :( Running a fever and his right ear hurts.

Planning and preparing for trips to see supporters. I have two trips planned and I want them covered in prayer; especially for my family while they cope without me... although me leaving for a couple of days might be on their praise list :).

If you want to support what I do a little or a lot, on a one time basis or a recurring basis, click on the tab "Supporting the Work" at the top of the page and search for Caleb Robbins and then click on Caleb and Diane Robbins. Diane is my beautiful wife and the mother of my three precious children Creed 5, Asher 3, and Liam 1.

Blessings!
